Project Manager Career Path: How to Get Promoted to Director

Excellent delivery is necessary for promotion but not sufficient: each level of the project management career ladder demands a fundamentally different skill set. This course walks through the five levels from Coordinator to Director and shows how to demonstrate readiness for the next level before the promotion conversation happens.

Who this course is for

• Project coordinators and project managers planning their next career move
• Senior project managers preparing for the jump to program management, the biggest shift on the ladder
• PMs whose organization has no defined career path and who need to build their own

What you'll be able to do

• Name the skill shift required at each of the five levels: Coordinator, Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Program Manager, and Director or Vice President
• Identify which of the four capabilities that matter most you have underinvested in: strategic thinking, business acumen, communication that scales, and political awareness
• Translate project metrics into business outcomes and lead with the conclusion when you communicate
• Make your value visible by quantifying wins in business terms and volunteering for high-visibility work
• Operate at the next level before the title changes
