How do I report these PDUs to PMI?
You report them yourself in PMI's CCRS under Education, Online or Digital Media. Use "Self Made PM" as the provider and enter the PDUs shown on your certificate, not the course's listed maximum.
PDUs from these courses are self-reported. Self Made PM doesn't submit anything to PMI for you, so once you have your certificate, you claim the PDUs yourself in PMI's online Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS).
Before you start
Have your PDF certificate open. It lists everything you'll need: the course title, the completion date, the PDUs you earned, and the Talent Triangle area. If you haven't earned one yet, see How do I earn a certificate of completion?
Steps to claim your PDUs
Menu names may differ; follow PMI's current instructions. In general:
- Sign in to PMI's CCRS.
- Choose to claim PDUs, then pick Education and Online or Digital Media.
- Enter the provider as Self Made PM.
- Enter the course title exactly as it appears on your certificate.
- Enter the completion date from your certificate.
- Enter the PDUs shown on your certificate, and assign them to the Talent Triangle area listed on it if you're asked.
- Add a short description of what you learned, if requested, and submit.
Report your recorded PDUs, not the maximum
Each course lists a maximum PDU value, but your credit is based on your recorded learning time, rounded down to the nearest 0.25 PDU. Always report the PDUs printed on your certificate. For the details, read How is PDU credit calculated for each course?
Why you enter the details yourself
Self Made PM isn't a PMI Authorized Training Partner, and PMI doesn't pre-approve these courses. You type the course details in from your certificate rather than selecting a registered provider. See Is Self Made PM a PMI Authorized Training Partner?
Limits and requirements
PMI sets how many PDUs you need, how many can come from each category, and the Talent Triangle minimums, and those rules change. Check PMI's current CCR Handbook before you plan your renewal.
After you submit, keep your certificate and notes in case your claim is audited. Read What should I keep in case of a PMI audit?
