What should I keep in case of a PMI audit?

Keep the PDF certificate for each course and short notes on what you learned. Save them outside your browser, because course progress is stored only on the device where you watched.

PMI may audit a percentage of PDU claims. If yours is selected, you'll need to show evidence of the learning you reported. For these courses, that means your certificate and a record of what you learned.

What to keep for each course

  • The PDF certificate. It shows your name, the course title, the provider (Self Made PM), the completion date, your recorded learning time, the PDUs earned and the course maximum, the Talent Triangle area, links to the course page and video, and a certificate ID.
  • Notes on what you learned. A few bullet points on the key ideas and how you'd apply them. The course page lists learning objectives, which are a good outline for your notes.
  • What you reported. The date you submitted the claim and the PDU amount you entered, which should match the certificate.

Store it outside your browser

Course progress is kept in your browser's local storage on one device. If you clear site data, use a private window, or switch browsers, the progress is gone and you can't regenerate the certificate there without retaking the course. So:

  1. Download the certificate as soon as you pass.
  2. Save it to a folder you back up, such as cloud storage or a dedicated renewal folder.
  3. Keep your notes in the same place.

There's no account or server copy on this site, so your saved files are your only record. For more, read Why did my course progress disappear?

Make sure your records match

Report the PDUs shown on your certificate, not the course's listed maximum. A claim that matches your certificate is much easier to support. See How do I report these PDUs to PMI?

Audit rules

PMI decides how audits work, how long to keep records, and what it accepts as evidence. Check PMI's current CCR Handbook for the exact requirements.
