Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini: which should a PM use?

The book uses Claude as the primary assistant for planning, writing, and analysis, and Google Gemini for deep research and large-context work. The core methods work in any of the three.

You don't have to pick a single winner. The Project Brain uses a multi-AI strategy: one primary assistant that holds your project context, plus a second tool for jobs the first handles less well.

How the book splits the work

  • Claude is the primary tool. It does the day-to-day work in the book: building plans, drafting reports, processing meeting notes, and running stakeholder simulations against your Project Brain.
  • Google Gemini handles deep research and large-context analysis. When you need to digest a very large pile of material or research a topic broadly, the book routes that work to Gemini. Chapter 14, the Gemini Supplement, covers it.
  • ChatGPT is also referenced. The underlying methods (organised context, clear prompts, verification) carry over to it.

How to choose for yourself

  1. Start with the tool your organisation allows. An approved tool beats a slightly better one you aren't allowed to use with work data.
  2. Pick one primary assistant and commit to it. Your Project Brain lives there, so switching every week means rebuilding context every week.
  3. Add a second tool for specific jobs. Research, cross-checking an important deliverable, or very large documents are good reasons to switch.
  4. Test with your own work. Run the same real task, such as a status report from last week's notes, through each tool and compare the results.

Features, limits, and model lineups change often, so check each provider's current documentation rather than relying on a comparison chart from months ago.

Moving work between tools

Each assistant knows nothing about your conversations with the other. When you hand work across, paste a short summary of the context, what's already done, and what you need next.
