Can I follow the book using ChatGPT or Gemini?

Partly. The book uses Claude as its primary tool and Gemini for research, and it also references ChatGPT. The core ideas carry over to other assistants, but Claude-specific steps won't match exactly.

You can apply most of the book's ideas with other AI assistants, but it's written with Claude as the primary tool, so some steps won't line up exactly.

How the book uses each tool

  • Claude (Sonnet and Opus): the primary tool for building your Project Brain and for most workflows
  • Google Gemini: deep research and large-context analysis, as part of a multi-AI strategy, with its own supplement in Chapter 14
  • ChatGPT: referenced, but not the main tool

What carries over to any assistant

  • The Project Brain idea: giving the AI a persistent knowledge base of your project
  • The three-tier document structure of Constitution, News, and Library
  • Keeping documents clean and current with the Janitor Protocol
  • The producer-to-editor mindset: AI drafts, you review
  • Checking AI output before you rely on it

What may differ

  • Claude-specific steps. Instructions written for Claude's interface or features may not have a direct match elsewhere. Look for the equivalent feature in your assistant, such as a place to store project files and standing instructions.
  • Claude Code. Chapter 11 uses Claude Code, which is specific to Claude.
  • Output style. Different assistants respond differently to the same prompt, so expect to adjust prompts.

A practical approach

If you already pay for ChatGPT or Gemini, start there and learn the concepts. If you want to follow the book step by step, use Claude. Many PMs combine tools. See Combining Claude and Gemini for maximum effectiveness and Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini: which should a PM use?
