How do I add labels and acceptance criteria?

Open a story from the Backlog view. Type comma-separated tags in the Labels field and your definition of done in the Acceptance Criteria field, then select Update.

Both fields live in the story dialog, so you can fill them in when you create a story or add them later.

Adding them to a story

  1. Open your project and select Backlog in the sidebar.
  2. Select the story's row to open Edit Story, or select New Story to start a new one.
  3. In Acceptance Criteria, describe the conditions that must be true for the story to be done.
  4. In Labels, type one or more tags separated by commas, for example frontend, api.
  5. Select Update (or Create for a new story).

Labels

Labels are free text, so you can use any tags that help you, such as a component, a client name, a team, or a theme. There's no predefined list and nothing to set up first.

A few things to know:

  • Labels are saved on the story and shown when you open it.
  • The Backlog view's filters cover status and priority only, so you can't filter by label.
  • Keep spelling consistent ("frontend", not sometimes "front-end") so the tags stay meaningful.

If you need a stronger grouping that shows up as a colored badge and tracks progress, use an epic instead. See How do I create and manage epics?

Acceptance criteria

The field is a plain text box; its placeholder suggests the popular Given... When... Then... format. For example:

  • Given a signed-in customer, when they select "Reorder", then their last order is added to the cart.
  • Given an empty cart, when they select "Reorder", then they see a message explaining there's nothing to reorder.

Good acceptance criteria are specific and testable. They're the checklist whoever reviews the work uses before moving the story to Done.
