Business Communication: Fix Miscommunication & Write Like a Pro
About this course
Many communication failures happen because the sender thinks a message is clear while the recipient reads it through a different lens. This course names three causes of miscommunication (assumed shared understanding, channel mismatch, and information asymmetry) and then works through each setting where they show up: email, chat, executive writing, listening, documentation, and presenting to skeptics.
Who this course is for
- Project managers and professionals whose emails and messages don't get the response they need
- Anyone who writes briefs or recommendations for executives
- People who present to skeptical audiences or stakeholders with conflicting priorities
What you'll be able to do
- Diagnose a communication failure with the three-cause model and pick the right channel for the message
- Write emails using the three-question opening, headline subject lines, and the single ask rule
- Use threads and explicit expectations to keep chat organized
- Write for executives with the Pyramid Principle, decisive language, and the one-page test
- Confirm understanding by restating what you heard, and handle skeptics by naming the skepticism, addressing the strongest objection first, and bringing data
