What is a companion article for a video?
A companion article is the blog post paired with a video. It embeds the video and covers the same topic in writing, so you can watch, skim, or come back to the key points later.
Each of the 28 videos in the Video Library is paired with a blog article. That article is its companion: it embeds the video and presents the same lesson as text.
How to open one
- Go to the Video Library.
- Find the video you want (see How do I find a video on a specific topic?).
- Click the video's title or the Watch Video button. Both open the companion article, not YouTube.
The video player appears near the top of the article, with the written content below it.
Why pair videos with articles
- Read or watch, your choice. Skim the article when you can't play audio, or watch when you'd rather listen.
- Easier to reference later. It's quicker to find a framework or checklist in text than to scrub through a video.
- More to explore. Like every blog post, a companion article has breadcrumbs, related articles, and a note about the book, so you can keep going on the same topic.
Example
The video "Project Management and Artificial Intelligence - Build Your Own PMO with Claude" is paired with How to Build Your Own AI-Powered PMO with Claude. Another example is the scope creep video, paired with How to Prevent Scope Creep: A PM's Survival Guide.
About the embedded player
A companion article shows the video's thumbnail, served from selfmadepm.com. YouTube's privacy-enhanced player loads only when you click play, and from then on YouTube's own policies and cookies apply. For details, see Does this site use cookies or tracking?
Not every blog article has a video. Most of the 180+ posts are written only, and videos are limited to their companion articles.
