What story statuses and priorities are available?
Stories have five statuses: Backlog, To Do, In Progress, In Review, and Done. There are four priorities: Critical, High, Medium, and Low. New stories start as Backlog and Medium.
Statuses and priorities in LocalPM are fixed lists. You can't add, rename, or remove them.
Statuses
| Status | What it usually means | On the Kanban board? |
|---|---|---|
| Backlog | Captured but not yet ready or scheduled | No |
| To Do | Ready and committed, not started | Yes |
| In Progress | Someone is actively working on it | Yes |
| In Review | Work is finished and being checked | Yes |
| Done | Complete | Yes |
New stories start in Backlog. The board has four columns, one for each status from To Do to Done, so a story needs to be moved to To Do before it appears there.
You can change a story's status in two ways:
- Drag its card between columns on the Board (mouse only)
- Open it from the Backlog view and change the Status field
Priorities
- Critical: needs attention now; shown with a red marker
- High: important and should come soon; orange
- Medium: the default for new stories; yellow
- Low: nice to have; green
On the board, each card shows its priority as a small colored dot. In the Backlog list, priority appears as a colored badge.
Filtering by status and priority
In the Backlog view, use the Status and Priority dropdowns above the list to show only matching stories, for example all Critical bugs, or everything In Review. Choose "All Statuses" or "All Priorities" to clear a filter.
Seeing the big picture
The Reports view includes a distribution by status and a distribution by priority for the whole project, and the project Overview shows the status breakdown too. See What reports does LocalPM include?
For advice on using priority well, read Priority Fields That Make Triage Decisions Obvious.
