Why doesn't skipping ahead count toward completion?
The course page counts each second of the video you actually play, once. Skipped sections aren't counted, and the knowledge check unlocks only after you've watched at least 90% of the video.
Each course is meant to reflect real learning time, so the course page tracks what you actually watch rather than how far the playhead has moved.
How watch progress works
- The page counts each second of the video that you actually play, once.
- If you skip ahead or drag the playhead forward, the part you jumped over isn't counted.
- Rewatching a section doesn't count it twice.
- The knowledge check unlocks when you've watched at least 90% of the video.
So if you skip the middle of a video, you might reach the end and still find the knowledge check locked.
How to unlock the knowledge check
- Go back to the sections you skipped and play them through.
- Play them on the course page itself, at any speed, without jumping ahead.
- Once you pass 90%, the knowledge check becomes available.
You don't need to start over. Seconds you already watched stay counted, as long as you're in the same browser.
Why it's built this way
PDUs are based on hours of learning, and the certificate shows your recorded learning time. Skipping would make that record meaningless and could cause problems if PMI audits your claim. Recorded time comes from the video actually playing on the course page, so skipped sections also don't add to your PDU credit. See How is PDU credit calculated for each course?.
Still locked after watching everything?
- Make sure you watched on the course page itself, not on YouTube directly. Only playback on the course page is counted.
- Progress is saved in your browser on that device. A private window, cleared site data, or a different browser starts you from zero. See Why did my course progress disappear?.
Once it unlocks, read How does the knowledge check work? for the pass mark and retake rules.
