Does watching at a faster speed affect my PDUs?
Yes. Recorded time is wall-clock time while the video plays on the course page, so a faster speed means less recorded time and possibly fewer PDUs. Pausing doesn't add time.
Yes. Watching faster still counts toward completion, but it lowers the learning time the site records, and that time is what your PDU credit is based on.
Why speed matters
The course page records wall-clock time while the video is playing, plus time spent on the knowledge check (capped at 15 minutes per attempt). It doesn't record video minutes. So:
- At normal speed, a 20-minute video records about 20 minutes.
- At 2x speed, the same video records about 10 minutes.
- Pausing doesn't add time, so leaving the video paused won't raise your credit.
Credit is your recorded time rounded down to the nearest 0.25 PDU (15 minutes), capped at the course's listed maximum.
An example
Say a video is 20 minutes long and you spend 5 minutes on the knowledge check.
- At 1x: about 25 minutes recorded, which is 0.25 PDU.
- At 2x: about 15 minutes recorded, which is still 0.25 PDU.
- At 2x with a 3-minute quiz: about 13 minutes, which is 0 PDU.
Because of the 15-minute steps, a small change in speed sometimes makes no difference, and sometimes drops you below a threshold.
Does speed affect unlocking the quiz?
Faster playback still plays every second of the video, so it counts toward the 90% watched needed to unlock the knowledge check. Skipping ahead is different; see Why doesn't skipping ahead count toward completion?.
What to do
If you want the most credit, watch at normal speed on the course page and take your time with the knowledge check. Whatever you choose, report the PDUs shown on your certificate, not the course's listed maximum. The full rules are in How is PDU credit calculated for each course?.
