What happens when I delete a sprint?

The sprint is removed permanently, and every story in it goes back to the backlog with its status set to Backlog. The stories themselves are not deleted.

Deleting a sprint removes the sprint, not your work. Every story that was in the sprint is kept and returned to the backlog.

How to delete a sprint

  1. Open your project and choose Sprints in the sidebar.
  2. Find the sprint and click Delete on its card.
  3. Confirm the prompt: "Delete this sprint? Stories will be moved back to the backlog."

The Delete button only appears on sprints that are still in Planning. Active and completed sprints can't be deleted from the Sprints page.

What changes

  • The sprint is gone. Its name, goal, and dates are removed permanently.
  • Its stories are unassigned. Each story's Sprint field is cleared.
  • Their status resets to Backlog. Any story that was set to To Do or another status goes back to Backlog, so you'll need to set statuses again when you move them into a different sprint.
  • Everything else on the story stays. Titles, descriptions, story points, priorities, assignees, labels, acceptance criteria, and epic links are untouched.

There's no undo

LocalPM has no undo, trash, or backup, so a deleted sprint can't be restored. If you only want to change a sprint's plan, edit its stories instead of deleting the sprint. See Can I back up or export my LocalPM data? for how to protect your data.

Common reasons to delete a sprint

  • You created a duplicate by mistake.
  • You planned too far ahead and want to re-plan from the backlog.
  • A planned sprint was cancelled before it started.

After deleting, open Backlog to re-prioritize the returned stories. See How do I manage my backlog in LocalPM?, and for ideas on keeping that list lean, read Backlog grooming that actually reduces scope creep.
