Is LocalPM free, and do I need an account?

Yes, LocalPM is free, and you don't need an account. There's no sign-up or login; you open the tool in your browser and your work is saved on your own device.

LocalPM is free to use, and there's nothing to sign up for. Open /tools/localpm/ and you can create your first project immediately.

Why there's no account

LocalPM has no server behind it. Everything you create, from projects and stories to sprints and retros, is saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. Since nothing is sent anywhere, there's no need for a username, password, or profile. In fact, selfmadepm.com has no accounts or logins anywhere on the site.

What that means for you

The no-account design has a few practical consequences worth knowing up front:

  • Privacy: your project data stays on your device. See Can anyone else see my LocalPM data?
  • One browser only: your data lives in the browser profile where you created it. Opening LocalPM on another computer or in a different browser shows an empty workspace.
  • No recovery: there's no account to restore from, so clearing your browser's site data deletes your projects permanently.
  • No team sharing: other people can't log in to see or edit your projects.

Getting started

  1. Go to /tools/localpm/.
  2. Select New Project on the Dashboard.
  3. Give the project a name and a key, then select Create Project.
