Does LocalPM work offline or across devices?

Yes, once it has loaded: LocalPM makes no network calls, so it keeps working without a connection. You need internet only to open or reload it. Data doesn't sync between devices, browsers, or users.

LocalPM runs entirely in your browser and saves to your device, which affects both offline use and syncing.

Offline use

Once the LocalPM page has loaded, you can keep working if your connection drops. Changes are saved to your browser as you make them, since nothing is sent to a server.

However, LocalPM isn't an installable offline app. You need an internet connection to open or reload the page at /tools/localpm/. If you expect patchy Wi-Fi, open LocalPM while you're connected and leave the tab open.

Using more than one device or browser

Your data lives in one browser profile on one device. That means:

  • Projects created on your laptop won't appear on your phone or another computer.
  • Projects in one browser (for example Chrome) won't appear in another (for example Firefox or Edge), even on the same computer.
  • Separate browser profiles have separate data.

There's no sync, and no export or import to move data between them. If you switch computers, you'll need to start fresh on the new one. See Can I back up or export my LocalPM data?.

The practical approach is to choose one browser on one device as your LocalPM "home" and use it consistently.

Sharing with your team

LocalPM is a single-user tool. There's no way to invite teammates or share a live project. Some ways teams work around this:

  • One person, such as the scrum master, owns the board and shares their screen during standups and planning.
  • Share summaries, such as sprint goals, retro action items, or a screenshot of Reports, through your usual team channels.

If you've reached the point where you need real-time collaboration, read When your project outgrows LocalPM and what to do about it.

Phones and tablets

LocalPM opens on mobile browsers, but dragging cards on the Kanban board needs a mouse. See Why can't I drag cards on a touchscreen? for the workaround.
